Top Ten Tuesday: Top Ten Favourite Book Quotes [From 2017]

March 6: Top Ten Favourite Book Quotes [From 2017]
2017 was an incredible reading year for me: I managed to read 52 books over the course of the year, and I reviewed every one of them, each accompanied by my favourite quote. As a result, I had to whittle 52 down to ten, which was oddly easier than I had imagined. Even more strangely was the realisation that my favourite quotes didn’t align with my favourite books, and if that doesn’t tell you how much these quotes resonate with me, I don’t know what does.

1. “Don’t waste your energy trying to educate or change opinions; go over, under, through, and opinions will change organically when you’re the boss. Or they won’t. Who cares? Do your thing, and don’t care if they like it.”
Bossypants by Tina Fey

2. “We’re too concerned with the external, with our appearances, with what others think of us, when we should be concerned with the internal, with our hearts.”
If I Was Your Girl by Meredith Russo

3. “But words are things, and a small drop of ink,
Falling like dew, upon a thought, produces
That which makes thousands, perhaps millions, think.”
Don Juan by Lord Byron

4. “It is better to be alone, she figures, than to be with someone who can’t see who you are. It is better to lead than to follow. It is better to speak up than stay silent. It is better to open doors than to shut them on people.”
The Disreputable History of Frankie Landau-Banks by E. Lockhart

5. “Funny things, words. Big words, small words, words that are bigger on the inside and packed tight with feeling. They can make us fall in love, and they can break our hearts and we’re powerless against them.”
Unconventional by Maggie Harcourt

6. “Love takes so much energy, and it just leads to pain. I think it’s probably best for people to be self-sufficient. If I was strong enough to be independent, then I wouldn’t be so desperately lonely, I’m sure of it.”
The Loneliest Girl In The Universe by Lauren James

7. “You may be born into a family but you walk into friendships. Some you’ll discover you should put behind you. Others are worth every risk.”
They Both Die At The End by Adam Silvera

8. “It’s the worst kind of person who goes back on a promise, even one they made to themselves.”
Our Endless Numbered Days by Claire Fuller

9. “Maybe language is kind, giving us these double meanings. Maybe it’s trying to teach us a lesson, that we can always be two things at once.”
The Lover’s Dictionary by David Levithan

10. “you can know all the facts you want about a person
– heights, weight, the way they like their eggs –
but you’ll never know for sure what’s
driving his heart.”
Moonrise by Sarah Crossan
