The Currently Reading Book Tag

This month, overwhelmed by my insane currently reading pile, I decided to compose an original book tag. Say hello to The Currently Reading Book Tag. Now, I’m assuming that approximately 0.001% of the global population possess such erratic reading habits as I do, but I thought it would be fun to explore which books are stacked in a huge pile by the side of my bed.

1. How many books are you currently reading?
A grand total of 23. It’s been worse (in the high 20s), but it is still pretty out of control.

2. What book have you have been currently reading for the longest amount of time?
Our Endless Numbered Days by Claire Fuller
According to my trusty Goodreads, I started this novel in April 2016 – almost 18 months ago. I really enjoyed the mystery of the first 50ish pages, but then it got a bit slow and repetitive so I put it on hold.

3. What book have you been currently reading for the shortest amount of time?
It by Stephen King
I only picked this book up on September 19, two days ago. Having been heavily featured lately thanks to the recent movie adaption release, I decided to pick it up and have a go at devouring this monster.

4. What is the longest book on your currently reading pile?
It by Stephen King
Standing at a mammoth 1166 pages, if I manage to finish this novel it will become the longest book I’ve ever read.

5. What is the shortest book on your currently reading pile?
The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy by Douglas Adams
The edition I’m reading is 138 pages long. I’m listening to the audiobook whilst reading along, which is proving to be very entertaining.

6. What book do you think you’ll love but just cannot get through?
A Court of Mist and Fury
by Sarah J. Maas
I absolutely adored A Court of Thorns and Roses (it was one of my favourites of 2015), but unfortunately I’ve been in a very anti-fantasy reading slump over the past year or so. Here’s hoping I come out the other side sooner rather than later.

7. What is the primary genre on your currently reading pile?
At present, it is Young Adult, although only nine fall within that genre. There are also crime/thrillers, children’s, autobiographies/memoirs, literary fiction etc etc

8. If you had to DNF (did not finish) a book on your currently reading pile, which would it be?
How To Be Single
by Liz Tuccillo
This was difficult, as there are a few books that I’d happily not finish reading, but considering I only got 4% through this before casting it aside, I think this is probably the one I am most likely to DNF.

9. Which book that you are currently reading has the most Goodreads ratings?
The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy by Douglas Adams
This apparently extraordinary novel has over 1,000,000 ratings, which is absolutely staggering. There must be a good reason why, so here’s hoping I find out for myself soon.

10. Which book that you are currently reading has the fewest Goodreads ratings?
The Fandom by Anna Day
At the time of writing this post, this novel only had 55 ratings, but given that it is not published until January 2018 this isn’t really a surprise.

11. Which book that you are currently reading do you expect to finish next?
A Darker Shade of Magic by V.E. Schwab
I’m reading this on my Kindle in bed every evening – just a chapter or two – and I’m really enjoying it. I expect once we dive into some action I’ll whizz through the remaining pages.

If you read many multiple books at the same time, I tag you. Otherwise, please let me know down in the comments how insane I am out of 100 – I think I already know the answer!

  1. I totally sympathise with your anti-fantasy reading slump, I was literally in one for ages but I think (hoping and praying!) I’m finally emerging from the other end of that long and dark tunnel because I absolutely loved the Six of Crows duology when I read it this year! I hope yours doesn’t last too long!!
