On January 1st 2015, having finished my Post-A-Day 2014 challenge (which I technically haven’t as yet written all the blog posts for), I decided to do a different, more specialised yearly challenge: the 2015 Reading Challenge. To complete this challenge, the aim is to read 52 books in 50 different categories over the course of the year. Not only does it set a reading goal of one book a week, it also promotes wider reading, rather than sticking to one genre. Since 52 books is my goal, and there are 12 months in a year, that translates as 4.33 books a month, a healthy and achievable target.
Alongside my individual book review blog posts, I’ve decided to “wrap-up” the end of every month with two special posts: a book haul, and a reading wrap-up. My plan is to publish my book-hauls on the last day of the month, and my reading wrap-ups on the first day of the following month (a day later).
In 2015 my target was to acquire no more than 10% more books than I read in the year (for example, if I read 50 books, I’m allowed to buy 55 throughout 2015). Unfortunately, at my current rate, I’d have to read about 285 books to condone my book buying habit. Yeah right!
This month, I purchased 26 books (one of which will be part of a future Goodreads giveaway). As is typical for me, I already own copies of nine of these books, but a bibliophile can never have too many!
